GIAN-North participated in Techkrit-2003 at IIT, Kanpur
GIAN-North in association with National Innovation Foundation participated in Techkrit-2003 at IIT, Kanpur held from 27th February to 3rd March 2003. An exhibition on the theme of grassroots innovation was put on this occasion in the exhibition 'Endeavor' on this occasion. The work of the innovators from north
India was showcased in the exhibition.
This provided a platform and preview to students to get involved in the mission of NIF. Many students expressed their desire to work with NIF as summer interns
On this occasion a lecture on the business development and micro venture activities of NIF was arranged at the MBA department of IIT, Kanpur. Delivering the lecture and during interaction with the students afterwards, Mr. Jibanananda Khuntia, National Coordinator (VARD) of NIF and Mr. Debasish Ray Choudhuri, CIM, GIAN-North invited the students to be a part of the process. The students expressed their desire to work on the
products to develop business plan and market study of the grassroots innovators.
At IIT, Kanpur, Grassroots Innovation Augmentation Network (GIAN) – Technology is planned to be setup to incubate innovations and traditional knowledge and to forge linkages between informal scientific knowledge system and the excellence in formal sector. This technology resource centre needs to be put in place to extend the value chain from idea, innovation, basic prototype or a new formulation to its conversion into viable products and feasible enterprises. This will provide a supportive platform to the grassroots innovations by ways of infrastructure facilities, technical inputs, design and development, fabrication, testing, rapid prototyping and management inputs. This centre will work as a nodal point on the product development issues for all GIANs of different regions, which do not have support of technical
centers and excellences like IITs. This will be crucial to link innovators with technological, scientific and managerial experts through jointly defined research
programs, exhibitions, training and lateral learning workshops etc. for augmenting innovations. A MoU between IIT, Kanpur and NIF is being pursued. Discussions with Prof. S.G. Dhande, Director,IIT Kanpur and Prof. Deepak Kunzru, Dean, R & D, IIT, Kanpur were also held to come up with the center soon.
